The Missing Bark

I think I also read that sometimes the voice/bark comes back. It's just sad to me, but Mia doesn't seem to mind. I read that when they bark after this procedure has been done, even though it's only a little squeak/raspy sound that comes out, they still think they're barking and get whatever satisfaction comes along with it...who knows.

I'm still stunned that the breeder does this to his show dogs--they really seemed like very caring/loving dog people. He said they take the dogs on the road alot to shows and stay in hotels and that's another reason he feels he has to do it. Whatever--

Anyway, I'm just going to focus on this little joy of a girl and give her lots of love and attention.

Thanks again for helping this "new kid on the block"! :)

Denise, I hope you will make a point to tell all your friends and fellow dog owners about this breeder and to do what you can to discourage people from buying from them. They are horrible, selfish people and shouldn't be allowed to breed or show.

I definitely will pass the word to anyone I know that's considering a Cavalier. One of my good friends will probably be adopting a Cavy in the next year or so--she won't be going to this breeder if I have anything to say about it.

I'm so glad this isn't a health problem, but do feel bad about what the breeder has done. I hope her bark returns soon! I also remember reading their barks can return after awhile. :flwr:

Out of curiousity...since you are not allowed to alter your dogs for showing...is de-barking allowed?

Denise...congrats on your beautiful new little girl. I am sad to hear that she had to go through such a senseless procedure but I am sure everyone else on this board will back me up when I say that even without a bark..Cavaliers have a million and one ways to love and to get their point across!!! lol.

Whether her bark comes back or not, you two have many fun years to come!

p.s. Finn says if you point the breeder out to him, he will stand on his lawn and bark at him for a couple of hours and then pee on his leg when he comes out  icon_whistling ;)

LOL!! What a great picture that conjures up in my mind! Tell Finn I appreciate his thoughtful offer and if he's ever in the area, I'll personally escort him to the breeder's front yard.

Mia is pretty expressive even without her bark--has no problem getting her point across at all. She's a lovey!

I am really sad that your breeder did this - I also travel and show with my Cavaliers and have never had any problems with excessive barking. I am very angry that he did this to your little girl - it really is a shame :cry*ing: Makes me wonder if they just leave their "show dogs" crated all the time icon_devil Mine sleep in the hotel bed with me :l*v:

Thanks, Janet. I know, every time I hear her little raspy bark it makes me sad. I think she was kenneled quite a bit based on some observations over the last week. She's so sweet and happy, though. Thank God for that! She's a survivor for sure!! And quite lively...definitely coming out of her shell. ;)

Thanks, Cathy! She definitely won't lack for cuddles and kisses--much to Wrigley's dismay...although he's warming up to her nicely. I found them cuddling last night and, of course, the camera was no where to be found.

hello from jadan a five month old pup who i think has a bit of a cruch on your mia. i have just been reading through your story and each time her pic comes up he wants to lick the screen :jump: maybe he is giving her his own big kiss. :p :p

My Sasha has a very raspy bark as well - she had laryngeal prolapse at age 3 and had one side of throat sutured back. It sure doesn't keep her from barking at the squirrels and other dogs walking in our neighborhood. She doesn't seem to notice that her bark sounds different than the other two!

I crush her kibble very small along w/a little pumpkin for her daily meals. Otherwise, she seems to have a hard time swallowing, and just recently I put her on a very small dose of antacid due to regurgitating her food.

Sheri

Hi Sheri-

I'm sorry to hear about Sasha's prolapse--how did it happen? Mia doesn't seem to notice her little impairment either. My vet took a look and didn't notice any scar tissue, which is what I was worried about. She's still on puppy kibble right now, so swallowing it hasn't been a problem.

Glad Sasha is o.k. now!
