They can pick up fleas anywhere -- while on walks, while at the vet, while visiting someone with dog, cats or other furries... fleas are very adaptable and mobile. Most dogs and cats get them on and off, depending on their environment (both location as some climates are more prone to fleas; and also what they come into contact with). They are easy to treat.

I have had dogs forever and I just saw my first flea Saturday. I think the last flea I had was 15 years ago. I always give the dogs and cats Advantage or Frontline, but this year my vet told me to use Sentinel because it combined the heartworm treatment with flea repellent. That sounded good for my dogs, so I said yes. When I saw the flea on Saturday, I went to the Sentinel website and found out that it doesn't cover all stages of flea life and doesn't kill adult fleas. So just 2 days ago, I applied Frontline Top Spot to kill those nasty fleas. My own cat is allergic to flea bites, so all fleas must die!

Fleas are such a pain. Not only are they uncomfortable for the dog, they make you have sympathy itches like crazy! I swear every time I find a flea on Cupcake (which hasn't happened for quite some time thank goodness!) I start itching like mad.
