Daisy being a terror!

Daisy has been a bit of a terror recently! She is obsessed with biting and pulling my hair ! i always tell her 'no' and she completly ignores me! She is also quite obsessed with chasing my feet when i walk, which is actually quite hard to get her to stop doing, i am sure she thinks it is a game, as she goes from chasing them, to biting them! The other day i was crouching down to pick something up and i had a nip on the bum! Sometimes it really hurts and especially when she goes for my face, she also has a habit of trying to bite my moles!!!! ouch!

She is very intelligent though, and i think that when i say no she just has selective hearing!!! She has already learnt to 'sit' & 'stay' and 'down' commands though at 10 weeks old! So quite pleased with that! She also seems to bite me harder than my husband which i find odd too.... i say to her that i am 'the hand that feeds' ! but it makes no difference!!!! icon_nwunsure

Daisy will grow out of this stage, but for now you may want to re-direct her attention to a toy, and if she still wants to bite maybe put her into time out for a few minutes.

Time out is putting her into an xpen or a room with baby gate in the doorway then ignore her for a few minutes (try 2 minutes). It may take many time outs before she makes the connection that when she is nice and doesn't bite you she gets to be with you.

Daisy will grow out of it - I forgot how bad it was when we had Ozzy - he got called most of the swear words from The Osbournes when he was biting.... :yikes

Sorry Emma but LMAO. I think those of us who have older dogs forget how naughty and rebellious those puppies can be!

I agree with the time out suggestion and also with distracting her with toys. Another thing you could try is either the low 'Bahhhhhhhhhhhhh' sound that the mother would make at a pup who has gotten a bit rough. It's always worked for mine. I found that yelping or squeaking just made them worse!

At the minute, Daisy is seeing you as a plaything - a surrogate puppy if you like.

How old is she now? If she's had her shots is there any way you could introduce her to other pups or a few well mannered dogs? They can be a great help in teaching maners.

I was very lucky in the fact that some of my friends also had Cavaliers when Maxx was a pup and one of them had a mother and daughter. Holly soon sorted Maxxy out for us. I think he thought she was HIS Mamma as well as Faith's. Scooby also gave him a few proverbial 'clips round the ear' too. He didn't bite and nip much after we started socialising him :D :flwr:

thanks for all the replies everyone, i have done the time out a few times now, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesnt!! I also direct her onto toys (as soon as she starts to bite me my husband says 'put a toy in her face!!!' which is actually pretty funny to me!) I have tried to make so many different noises to distract her from biting me, and most of them haven't worked, but i will try the Bahhhhhhhh noise ! Daisy is 12 weeks today, but she hasnt had her shots yet , she gets her 2nd one on saturday, so once they are all done i can take her out ! (yay!) on the plus side she learnt to give me her paw today ! :)

Emma,
If 2 minutes in time out doesn't work, try 4 minutes. It will take her awhile to figure it out. :)

ok thanks for that tip, i will try 4 minutes next time. I just tried the 'Bahhhhhh' noise aswell and it did work, she stopped biting me everytime !

Emma try a loud scream also - as this is what the other puppies in the litter would do - also check with your vet how long after the 2nd injection you can take her out..... ours was 12 days. Have you tried her collar ad lead yet to get her used to it?

Daisy will be having her 2nd injection on saturday so i must check with the vet about when she can go out, she did say that it would be a week after her jab. I cant wait to take her out! I haven't put her collar on yet - should i start to get her used to that now? Even though it might be another 2 weeks before she goes out? I will try a loud scream too, the Bahhhhh noise is going on deaf ears now!!!

A loud yelp is good....... it would be wish to start trying on the collar, we did an hour, then 2 hours, and so forth for Busta, but Woody and Ozzy had it on and it stayed on they had a couple of itchys but then forgot about it.
