PetPlan insurance

I have the PetCare insurance too for Lucky ... (did not pay for his Colitis though and I've probably spent $500 on that after several vet visits ... some before the insurance kicked in ).

I am wondering if I should switch or wait it out a year on PetCare. I think when I have some more time I will really compare the fine print a little closer ...

I already purchased the PetCare insurance for him for the QuickCare Gold up to $3000 per illness w/ 100% coverage and a $50 deductible for $40/mo.

I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to switch to PetPlan. I wonder what their turnaround time is on repayment. Maybe I'll wait a year or more.

i have quickcare gold for up to $6000 per illness category and im paying $53 a month. I am definitely interested in lower premiums. But as far as I know, petcare doen't have any copayment for specialists, referrals or emergency after hours tx, while petplan has a 30% copay. That zero copay is important to me--i am paying extra for a 0% copay and i want it to be for everything. i'd rather pay more to have that. But on the other hand, the $20,000 a year compares favorably against Petcare's $6000 lifetime per illness category i think.

The payment of claims turn around has been great with petcare, fast and complete, no hassle. That's good business, because customers like me tell other people about having a good experience, and that's great free advertising. smart.

Just to clarify, having a $20,000 annual maximum is much better than the $6,000 limit per illness as per PetCare.

If your dog gets a condition that is ongoing, your coverage runs out on that condition after you have claimed $6,000 with PetCare and it doesn't renew the year after - you are done.

With the $20,000 annual limit you can claim up to that amount every year (well, actually it's less than this amount the way the Petplan calculate your payment but still, much higher than $6,000) and it renews every year.

That's a much better payout than with PetCare.

click on the word (dark red) 'coinsurance.' This will open a window which details the copayments. There, it says:

"...30% coinsurance applies to specialist veterinary treatment i.e. veterinary treatment administered by a referral veterinarian; or at a referral veterinary facility, after hours veterinary facility, or accredited school/college of veterinary medicine. This coinsurance will only apply in exceptional cases where your current veterinarian is unable to perform the treatment necessary to treat your pet and needs to refer you to an external facility..."

You know, both these companies have way better U.S. plans than Canadian. What do your dogs get sick less? Its silly - I am not impressed with any of them yet but would sign up for either in the states - still looking...
