We went to puppy class last night and during the five minute free time at the end of the class a pug boy 16 weeks was playing with lady and kept lifting his back leg and getting excited he didn't get his lipstick out. The owner of the pug pulled him away from lady. I thought that this was strange because i thought that pups would be 6 months before all the sexual behaviour started? Do i need to keep lady away from the males in the class? She didn't seem bothered just lied on the floor. And was playful with all the pups in the class chasing them about. anyone have any advice.

let her play all she can as a puppy with other nice, well behaved dogs in an enviroment such as this... it is important that she really socialises at this young age and with dogs of all sizes/ages. Puppy classes are excellent for this.
Just keep her away from class during a season and always keep a lead on her when walking outside as well...you will find a "whole" dog from over a mile away will know when she is fertile and will jump rivers and oceans to get to her!!!
and your garden fence!....be careful.

My little Stewie started humping when he was 8 weeks old :sl*p: He was such a tiny fluff ball that it looked like you had a little white pouf stuck to your foot :lol: Some boys just have it in them from the get-go
Alison is right though, be cautious with her when she comes of age. I don't know if she is spayed or not, but it may be a good idea to have it done before she has her first season.

Actually....little pug boy isn't displaying sexual activity...it's dominance. Will you be spaying her? I had a neutered foster for 3 weeks who humped everything in site....especially my little girl (spayed). I let him do it and let her tell him to stop. He got the message pretty quickly. I prefer to let the dogs work things out between them. I corrected him when he did it at the dog park....we laughed and said his name was "No Rusty". He clued in after a few days and all I had to do was say "ah ah" just as he started. I couldn't possibly interrupt him every time he did it at him with Shelby...so I let Shelby correct him...and she did.
I think at this young age this is definitely just a pup trying out different behaviours -- it isn't any different from young children doing things that may seem sexual or grown up in other ways, but they aren't. The same with puppies. They also play fight and growl and neither of those behaviours are an exhibition of aggression or dominance or danger at such a young age. It's just a pup testing out all the things it might do as an adult.
Puppies routinely hump each other, playfight, and so forth. Just let them have a good time but as Alison notes -- watch carefully for Lady coming into heat early. They can start as early as four months though 6 months on is more the norm.

We don't have her spayed yet i am really confused on what to do for the best vet keeps saying to wait till after 3 to 4 months after first season i asked if i could get them to do it at 5 months. Conviently the price of the spray goes up based on the weight of dog. or i am i just been a cynic.
