History of Charleen's Dogs

I found some old pictures of the dogs in my history. At least since digital cameras and scanners were available. So the oldest picture dates back to 1995, I think.

(1995) Humphrey my basset hound and Maya the cat (she is still with us)
Humphrey is a girl, but I thought basset hounds looked like Humphrey Bogart, so therefore the name. She was born in 1989 and lived to be 14.5 years old. The day after she passed away, I brought home my first cavailer - Pippin on Feb. 1, 2004 (3 years ago this weekend).

Austen my Viszla was born June 1996 - He was absolutely fabulous off-leash on walks in the woods. This picture was from 1999. He was named after one of my favorite authors, Jane Austen.

July 2004 - Only 5 months after getting Pippin. Look how good my 2 boys are. (Pippin was 10 months old in this pic).

This was the Fall or later in 2004 - This is when I went over the edge and got my 3rd dog. Up to this point in my life, I had either one dog at a time or two. I also had 2 cats. I think I crossed an invisible boundary in Aug. 2004 when I brought home Merry at 2 months old. Austen liked Pippin, but thought Merry was too much. This is Austen, Merry & Pippin.

Lastly, this is May 2005. Austen had passed and I had moved out to the country and had a dog fence, dog door and dog room built for my lovely cavaliers. Here are Merry and Pippin aged 11 months and 21 months old respectively, in their new dog area.

Love the pictures Charleen. Your basset Humphrey was a beautiful girl. Funny how you have just a couple for so long then the population soars. I had always had cockers ....so had one and a mix pup then added one basset named Sophie...then it always seemed like well one more won't make a difference so now with one basset, one collie and 5 cavaliers I try to practice saying "no" alot to myself. Thanks for sharing your history!

Oh my goodness Mary - I also started my adult life with a black cocker spaniel. She came along in 1982 and became best friends with my basset, Humphrey who arrived in 1989. My cocker was named Casablanca, after the movie. Now you see the 2nd reason for Humphrey's name.

I am going to have to find old photographs and scan them into my computer.

I love that...Casablanca and Humphrey. My cocker was just Sam(my son helped name him). And Sophie the basset....then came Savannah the basset(Savannah Smiles movie) and then Elijah Blue the collie(blue merle) and Maya Rose was my first cavalier 4 years ago..a black and tan.

Mary, I told my sister Melody about our shared dog history and that you had more dogs than me and she jokingly said I cannot talk to you anymore. We live together and she is afraid you are a bad influence on me.  She said in no uncertain terms - no more dogs.

Tell your sister...there is always room for one more especially if they are little. :D

I'd love to Jasmine

Here is Luke the first day he came in May 2006. He was 3.5 years old and just retired as a stud dog.
I renamed him Lucky Luke after a Belgian comic strip of that name.

July 17 2006 - picture from the breeder of Jolly Jumper.
This name is a character in the Lucky Luke comic series. He is Luke's son from Luke's last litter before retirement.

This is a great idea for a thread! :) You've had quite a few dogs over the years  It's fun to look at all the photos of your beautiful dogs.

I just love the names you've chosen for each of your dogs. Humphrey looks like a Humphrey even though she's a girl!!

I found some old Christmas photos.

The first is of Humphrey on her last Christmas in 2003. She and Austen went to doggy daycare every day and they took pictures of the dogs with Santa.
Humphrey was 14 years old.
Humphrey passes away a little over a month later. Austen was 7 years old.

Christmas 2004 - Austen 8 yrs, Pippin 1.5 yr, Merry 6 months.

Ohhh, they are adorable, I love how Humphrey laid down in the fake snow, like an angel on a cloud! *ng*l
