• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). As long as you recall your old login name, you can log in with that user name then select 'forgot password' and the board will email you at your registration email, to let you reset your password.

advanced puppy classes should we go or not?

Lady completed her training classes last month and the advanced class is due to start next week. The main reason for the classes were to socialise her and get her to follow some commands which she can now do. Is it essential for her to have these extra advanced classes where off lead work is taught or should we continue to teach her commands at home which we would prefer to do as the classes are quite costly another £60.00 for 6 sessions. What do you guys think?
 
I would have to agree with Inca :)

I put Kosmo in advanced class. He didn't really learn anything but we got to play a LOT of fun games :) It was great!
 
I put our lab through it and found what they do when relaxed at home and what they do when in a situation they arent expecting differs. We've had the never happen happen - collars off, meeting an aggressive dog, finding a dead animal - you hit those times and it really can make a difference that split second your dogs hesitates because you yell "wait" or "drop it". Plus I have to agree its fun! But I dont think you have to do it immediately - as long as you keep up the training you can take a breather and do it later.
 
I agree that there are lots of things that classes can provide that you don't get at home. But certainly if there is a cost concern, you can take a break and do those classes a bit later. (hopefully, they are available later in your area?) You can still continue to work at home on the things you have learned and maybe even a few tricks to keep things fun. :)

(y) well done, I'm sure you will enjoy learning all the new things together. Perhaps you might even learn enough by the late summer to do a few friendly local fun obedience comps? do you have a team where you train to do this?

There is nothing like taking a placing after all your very hard work together...you will grin from ear to ear!!! and even if you only take part we all know that we each take the best dog home regardless of winning. ;)

i don't know of any obedience comps in our area but it sounds fantastic do you know of any organisations or societies that i could contact?

Start with asking your trainer when and where the shows are, we give out entry forms at our club as soon as we know about them. Is you trainer a member of the PTDA? (Pet dog training assosiation)

You can also enquire after a club in your area which competes at obedience at the vets, groomers, pet shops. Many leave their contact details in those sort of public places. You could even put up a few "wanted" adds in the local shops to find a club yourself. Perhaps others at you classes know of somewhere?

You can always go on your own as well to enter, you don't have to be a club member but it's much more fun together.

Local papers give details of summer shows and fetes, they nearlly always have a small dog show there. Go along for a look the next time you see one advertised.

There is bound to be one in your area. Dig deep! :flwr:
