Walthams Sensitivity Control diet (SC24) causes Constipation can you help?

Hi, My eldest cavalier Kaytee has got so many health problems One she has suffered with badly is IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease) She was sick everyday until we were referred to a specialist vet who diagnosed IBD.
Kaytee was then put on prednisolone and a prescription diet walthams sensitivity control (SC24).
Since being on the steroids and the new food the sickness has cut down by at least 80% but the problem is she is always constipated

Her poos are tiny like marbles, and when I break them apart the inside is just biscuit! It just looks like the sc24 dried food on the inside wrapped in a solid jacket (hehe sorry) I am worried, why does it come out almost the same as it went in?
It doesnt even smell like poo's it smells like sc24.

But there is something else I need to ask you. I ordered her sc24 online as It is cheaper and it STILL hasnt turned up So yesterday I had to chance it and feed her on the James Wellbeloved we have for our other three dogs as were were broke and spent all the money online on her food

And guess what?!?!?!?! There was the most amazing poo EVER tonight! It was so nice to see Kaytee Poop at ease and not squat for ages before anything comes out. So now I wonder does she no longer need the special food? and will the steroids do the job alone now they are in the system?

So really this post comes with too many questions (SORRY)

1...Should I be worrying about the total biscuit poo's?
2...Is there a way to solve this? (she cannot have meat as makes her poorly)
3...Now I have discovered that her poos are perfect and no sickness so far should I keep her on James Wellbeloved??

Hi, unfortunately my vet is away for a week, I will ring her as soon as she is back as she knows all about kaytee, I just wondered if any of you had had this experience with your cavaliers and whether you had any natural remedies perhaps for constipation. thanks xx

Have you tried pumpkin? It helps to regulate both ways. Get some canned pumpkin (pure pumpkin without spices) and feed a spoonful or two. I dont know how it will effect her IBD, but it works good for my girls.

Canned pumpkin isn't really available in Europe so isnot an option for most of us unless you are near some store that imports American food around Thanksgiving time (wrong time of year right now) -- no one makes pumpkin pie over here so no one ever buys or sells pumpkin except occasionally as a fresh vegetable!

James Wellbeloved is a really good, simple food and Tara and I have used and recommended it for lots of dogs with sensitive stomachs. You'd really need to feed it for a while though to see if she will be comfortable with it but the fish diet for example is especially good for sensitive dogs, or the lamb and rice. I am not familiar with Walthams as I haven't seen it in Ireland. Hards poos are not necessarily bad -- raw feeders tend to get very small hard compact poos and these are considered good healthy stools. Your vet could tell you whether the poops you are seeing are healthy or indicate constipation but if they are solid that would to me indicate the type of poo you want to see, not runny or soft. If you are happier with the JWB then continue feeding that for the week, and see how Kaytee does.

No you wouldn't have been able to see that. I can see where people enroll from by their IP addresses.

I sure wish it were easier to get canned pumpkin as its a pain to make pumpkin pies each year by hunting down fresh pumpkin! Fortunately the Dublin farmer's market usually has some cooking pumpkins.
