Eye Ulcer..... wont heal

Eye Ulcer..... wont heal...UPDATED

On New Years Eve I took Minnie in to the vet because her eye looked very sore. She kept blinking as if there was something irritating her eye. The vet looked at it and we could see a tiny ulcer right on the center of her eyeball. He gave me Fucithalmic ointment to apply once daily and said it should clear up in a few days. I have had her back at the vets three times now and we are on the second tube of ointment and I'm really worried now because this is not getting any better. The vet said that sometimes eye ulcers are slow to heal, but this is ridiculous and I'm now at the stage where I need a second opinion.
My question is, does anyone know a doggie eye specialist in Dublin??

Thanks! The vet didn't seem overly concerned but this is going on way too long now. I'll take her back in tomorrow.

Eye ulcers can take a long time to heal , one of my dogs ended up having a corneal graft to treat an ulcer & was on fucithalmic drops about 5 times a day for 6 months !!

Once a day does not sound enough to me though

Nor to me -- usually you use drops at least 3x a day for eye ulcers and often more. Two-three weeks would be a fairly normal period for a vet to treat and remain unconcerned about an ulcer.

nina has had problems with ulcers because of her dry eye condition.she was also on fucithalmic but i found that it didnt work as well as chloramphenicol eye ointment which she was on previously. chloramphenicol is alot harder to put in the eye but it seemed to do the trick better than fucithalmic for nina.if it isnt getting any better your best going back to the vet because it might mean theres a problem with tear production???

Took Minnie back in to see the vet this afternoon and thankfully, her eye is much improved ( I just worry too much :sl*p:) The ulcer is much smaller and he also checked her tear production and that's fine too :rah:

I asked for a stronger medication and he gave me Chloromycetin (Chloramphenicol) so I am very happy about that :D

Thanks for the advice and support folks :flwr::hug:

I'm glad its all sorted because i know how frustrating eye problems can be!its really good news her tear production is good as her tears should help heal her eyes and keep them clean.

also the eye ointment youve got now is good stuff so minnie will have her bright sparkley eyes in know time!

Lucy had a bad ulcer on her eye for weeks, the vet had given me drops but it didnt heal so I brought her back and they sewed her third eyelid shut for a week, it looked really horrible but it worked, she is alot better now thank god :p
