can anyone shed light on this for me my 22 month old bleheim just the other day seemed to hurt her leg and yelped out it happened three times while she was playing over 3 days ive checked her leg out and theres no discomfort for her and shes been bouncing about as normal since then with no more problems just wondered if anyone knows anything before a take her for a trip to the vets which she dosent like :(

I always recommend immediately calling your own vets when anything unusual happens like this: they are the professionals and are better placed to advise you on what to look for and whether you should bring your dog in. A good vets will quite gladly offer phone advice and tell you whether they think a situation necessitates a trip to the vets.

Personally if I had a dog that cried out three times I'd have made a vet appointment right away. While this could be the case of a simple muscle pull, you need advice on how to manage it (eg crate rest, no running or jumping on and off things, etc). You may also need painkillers for your dog as they will hide a lot of pain and may be suffering without you recognising it. A vet will check for this properly. Finally this could be more serious -- luxating patellas for example, or hip dysplasia, a fracture, or early signs of something like syringomyelia (www.smcavalier.com). I'd get her to a vet or at least make a call to them for informed advice. (y)

went to vets today she said shes got a bit of a loose joint:rolleyes: but seems to be not affecting her :pshe said she may have trouble has she gets older and to take her back for an xray:eek: if it happens again i was happy but still gonna watch her and take her straight back if it happens again :confused:thanks for all replies good to know people who cares are out there:luv:

Does a loose joint mean a luxating patella? It sounds like it probably does. If it is very low grade they sometimes are OK as is but you might want to get an opinion from an orthopedist if she has problems again. Surgery will repair the problem if her knee is popping out and it is painful for her. If left unrepaired they tend to get worse and can be pretty painful when they get older. I'd only have surgery done by a specialist or someone who is very experienced with the surgery. I'd ask what grade the vet would give the knee, just for your own information.

thanks for info karlin yes im gonna take her back for her check next month and ask about that shes been ok:p since but like you say better to make sure before it gets painfull  if it is this i will of cause get her treated the best way i can thankyou anyway :flwr:

get another opinion

A loose joint ? sounds like a vet who should be referring you to an ortho.....sounds exactly like what we were going through and it turned out to be a luxating patella which while not an emergency, definitely needs to be taken care of....I would seriously consider getting another opinion......:)
