Moving away from Louis' best friend

Louis' Dad

New member
Hi everyone, can anyone please advise us. We are in the middle of buying a new house and hopefully will be moving in a couple of weeks. The problem we have is that Louis is looked after every day by the neighbours cav Leia. He is 3 1/2 and she is 2. We know he will miss her when we move away but we will have to work through it.

Has anyone any advice? We both work but are home early enough so he isn't alone 'til very late.

Thanks for any help

Well, you will likely need to make some arrangements if he is now to be on his own -- 8 hours is about the maximum a cavalier should be left inside on its own in a safe and secure place (they should never be left alone outside in a garden for many reasons -- risk of theft; development of anxiety and behaviour problems; the fact that their coat is not an outdoor coat and they are specifically bred as indoor companion dogs). You may need to arrange for someone to come home or pay someone to come in midday to let him out to relieve himself and give him some interaction and exercise, at least a couple of times weekly if not daily. Or you may need to find a doggie daycare service to drop him to.

If he has always been used to companion, then maybe it is time to consider a second dog.

A dog that has always had daily companionship who is suddenly moved to a new place and left alone all day as well, is at risk of developing problems so you will want to definitely make provisions one way or another. (y)

This would be my pick, as Karlin stated.

NO longer a problem

Hi everyone and thanks for your replies. The good news is that the problem has been solved in the most unlikely way. Our neighbours are moving as well and will be just around the corner from us. We will set up a doggy-share where they will take Louis and we will take Leia week on, week off.

Thanks again.

Wow, talk about everything happens for a reason ? Fancy that they are moving too ? Great news for you guys I'm so pleased for you. :)
