Is there a such thing as this? And if there is, what are they called? I am interested in seeing one to see what s/he would have to say regarding Faith's breathing problems. I have taken her to my regular vet several times regarding this issue.

She has this problem where she snorts sometimes even when she's awake and she snores SO LOUD at night that sometimes Avi leaves the room and he says I'm up all night pushing and repositioning her, lol. She sounds like a pug sometimes though, seriously :( The vet theorized that she has overproductive tear glands that are dripping down the back of her throat and causing snoring ~ kind of like a post-nasal drip problem. Has anybody ever heard of this before? She also looked in the light and said she doesn't appear to have any kind of obstruction and her nasal passage appears clear. She also doesn't have any blocked tear ducts *she tears excessively*.

The only option we have is to check her for an elongated soft palate when she is put out, but if we have to do that, I would rather have a specialist do it. I also heard one story of a dog who got the surgery for the elongated soft palate but the scar tissue ended up being enough to cause disruption of the airway, and that scares me.

Another thing that gets me is that she seems to excessively pant in the summer. I'm concerned about BAOS, but I don't know who to see to diagnose this type of problem.

Has anybody else had experience with this sort of deal? :xfngr:

Thanks! :dogwlk:

I know she's too young, really, but did you also get her heart checked? Faith was a rescue, wasn't she?

Fingers crossed you get her sorted. It's also possible she may grow out of it - Holly used to Cav snort A LOT and she snored horrendously loudly when she was younger. Now she very rarely snorts - honestly can't remember the last time she did so - and the snoring has decreased significantly as well. She used to snore unbelievably loudly - it was loud for me, and I'm severely/profoundly deaf!

Thanks so much for your input :)

Faith's doctor said that her heart sounds clear, but she's going to see a cardio at a upcoming show. Her mom (6 1/2) has a grade 2+ murmur that doesn't require any medications at the moment. Her mom came into rescue and my mom took her.. hehe

That is another thing the vet said ~ to wait until her head is done growing, but she snores SO LOUDLY it's crazy  Hopefully she will grow out of it !! :xfngr:

If you are really concerned I'd take her for a consult at Guelph. Its under 100$ for the appointment and you really won't find better Veterinary expertise anywhere else in Ontario. They'd also be able to guide you in what they feel is appropriate treatment and care. You should also maybe see about enrolling your two in the MVD study. I'll pm you with more info.

Hey, I never thought about Guelph! I'll see if my vet knows someone specifically from there. I had that option to take Kosmo there for the lux pat surgery, but my vet said the chances of me actually meeting the surgeon were slim to none so I went with a more local place.

Do you have to have generations of pedigrees that are A.K.C or C.K.C registered for the MVD study? I have Faith's "puppy mill papers" but she's never been registested.

I'm not concerned as in she's going to die tomorrow, but I would like a professional opinion on what's going on with her respiratory tract. I have met quite a few cavaliers before and none seem to have that issue. I've seen them snore quite loudly at night at times, but never as frequently as Faith. Faith snores EVERY TIME she sleeps and it's LOUD@ I'm just concerned she's going to end up in respiratory distress or something some day and I will feel awful because there's something I could have done yet never took the plunge to do it :flwr:

Dr. O'Grady is the Cardiologist and probably who i'd start with at Guelph. You may need a referal from your vet but shouldn't have any problems getting one. I'll pm the rest of what I was going to say!

(This is MB - Zo's mom just in case you didn't realize :) )
