    Default Stella...Our 5 wk old Female Tri-Color

This is my first post and figured I should introduce the new pup. Stella is 5 wks old. We will be picking her up in 3 wks (on her 8 wk birthday). She is going to be a perfect addition to our family and will be a great companion to us and our female Cocker Spaniel. Now the loooong 3 wk wait.

Oh, little Stella is precious. Eight weeks is so young for a little Cavalier to go to a new home. She will be very, very tiny, only about 4 pounds or so, and need alot of extra care, and patient training. Be sure to keep her isolated from other dogs until she has all of her shots, and her tummy may be a little sensitive at first. Alot of great information here on the boards, so read up and down, and around the corner. You will learn so much here!

I was under the impression that 8 weeks was the correct time to bring a pup home, is this not correct? I don't want to bring her home if it is not safe.

Yea, Stella will be coming home at 8 weeks as well. The picture of her at 5 weeks is a picture from the breeders house.

I believe 10-12 weeks is the recommended age to bring home your new Cavalier puppy. The extra few weeks they spend with their mother and littermates really makes a big difference. We brought both of ours home at just over 11 weeks and they are very independent, confident pups. I would wait for a few more weeks, if possible (I know it will be hard but it will be worth it!)
