excessive tears

We got a ruby boy, Sir Henri, a month ago to keep Jack Sprat company. Henri seems to be quite healthy overall, however his eyes tear to the point the he almost always has steaks down his face that are wet to the touch. His left eye did have a minor scratch, which was treated and is now better. I think I may try to find a specialist, but thought I'd ask here first for ideas.

That's pretty normal. They tend to tear a lot when small and it tends to cut way back when they reach adulthood. Some feel their skull grows to fit better around their eyes. Some dogs have runnier eyes than others though. And sometimes (very rarely) it is a medical issue. If your vet doesn't feel there's a problem, I doubt there's anything to worry about. Jaspar had really runny eyes as a puppy and now he almost has no discharge at all. On blenheims and rubies, the runny eyes are a lot more noticeable.

I have also heard of dogs having clogged tear ducts - I would go to a veterinary ophthalmologist rather than a regular vet for this.
