Chelle & Rex

I posted a while back about Rex having conjunctivitus that was hard to cure. It went on for almost two months so our vet sent us to see a eye specialist in Dublin.
He said Rex has two problems - the first is he has eyelashes growing into his eyes so they are constantly rubbing the eye. Second prob is his eyes are protruding too much from his head - as a result when he blinks he isnt lubricating all of the eye - only 70% of it so he's suffering from dry eye which was aggrivated by the stress of being in kennels. He recommended surgery to make his eye smaller by stitching the corners of his eyes. If it means he is no longer in pain I'm all for the surgery but I am wondering if anyone else has ever had a similar problem. I hate to think that our doggie is in pain every day. We have gel to put in his eye when we go out now and for when he goes to sleep (he sleeps with his eyes partially open which isnt good for him). I just want him to be happy and painfree
