I've just bought one, you microwave it for 5 minutes {depending on the power of your microwave} and it does indeed keep warm for up to 12 hours

If you put it in with your dog, make sure they have space to move off it if they are too warm though.

these are great! i bought one for when Bailey is really poorly, and she loves it! also use it after her bath which makes her feel much better after the dreaded bath experience!!
