Cavalier Club Website Announcement

I am pleased the Cavalier Club has published this information, although they have omitted to say that they were advised by the KC they could do nothing about the complaint, despite having received a number of letters confirming the allegations.

The crux of the matter is that Miss Costello did not reply to letters from the Cavalier Club or the Kennel Club, and so the KC has instructed the Club they can do nothing about what was a properly submitted complaint under the code of ethics.

The KC itself has decided the only thing they can do about Miss Costello is declare her a 'reluctant correspondent'. She can still judge, and other breeders can still use her SM affected stud dog ( there were two more litters sired by him registered in the new Breed Record Supplement )

The Kennel Club has just disqualified someone for hitting their dog with a dead rabbit, and published the fact in their Kennel Gazette, but ignore a specialists advice that your dog should not be used for breeding, allow him to sire a hundred 'at risk' puppies, and if you don't reply to letters you can get away with no adverse publicity, and save yourself the price of a stamp as well.

The Kennel Club is telling the Public & the Dog Breeding Reviews that the dog breeding community can self-regulate.......I don't think so.

So, can she still judge at KC shows now that she has resigned? Likewise, can she still use her dog at stud and can the resulting puppies be KC registered?

Yes and yes, according to the Kennel Club. Sick, isn't it? Let's all consider where the priorities have been ever since Pedigree Dogs Exposed ran. The urgency for both clubs seems to have been to remove the person who pointed out their serious, serious problems and to try to deny there were any problems until bit by bit, that defense has been chipped away. Yet 100+ at risk puppies are now out there, with the majority of those presumably with pet homes like yours and mine.

Odd how all the KC detail, and their own role, was left off the CKCS Club notice -- and that the KC also hasn't been publicly forthcoming with this information...icon_nwunsure

Seems information only comes out and action taken when pressure is applied, rather than to clarify key situations that have riven both clubs and badly damaged how they are seen by the public not just in the UK bit now, internationally. If both were a bit more forthcoming and transparent and committed to the dogs rather than breeder interests, it would go a long way towards giving them some credibility in the public eye.

:sl*p: Oh my! That's idiotic!

Edited to add: If I were there, I would go protest at the shows she's judging!

She has resigned from the Cavalier Club, but you do not need to be the member of a club to judge.

She has not been disqualified by the KC, but I was told in a letter from the Cavalier Club that the KC had decided they will not register puppies bred by her as a punishment for not answering their letters. ( other breeders can use her dogs & register the litters )
It was said the KC has declared her a 'reluctant correspondent', which seems to be something they have invented to deal with this situation.

The KC publishes a list of those fined, disqualified or admonished in any way in their gazette. Nothing about this decision has been published, probably because it illustrates there is a loophole in their regulations big enough to push a hundred 'at risk' puppies through.

I am shocked and saddened that puppies are still being sired by Miss Costellos dog(s) and that the KC are still registering them :(

I don't really understand the whole attitude of the kennel club, as a pet owner who always thought it stood for the welfare of pedigree dogs my faith in the KC is now non-existant.
How can the ordinary pet owner looking for a healthy puppy find out if they are buying one of this breeders pups or a pup sired from her stud dog?

This hypocrisy needs to be shouted from the roof tops. Im just a regular pet owner who fell in love with this breed.
Thank God for Margaret C and Karlins site for educating us and keeping this terrible disease and some money grabbing breeders highlighted.
