• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). vet cardiologist in Leinster area?

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a vet cardiologist in the Meath/Leinster area?
I have looked thru the phonebook and there are quite few but obviously I would prefer if someone could recommend one. Darcy was at the vet last week and the vet said she had a heart murmer grade 1.5 to 2 :( From reading throught the posts here, I see my next step should be a cardiologist so I would appreciate any recommendations.

Actually i don't think this is correct -- as far as I know there's only one place to go for cardiologist work and that is via UCD Vet School. I don't think the people you are viewing are cardiologist vets. :confused: There may be someone in the Cork area who also is a cardio specialist but I think not.

I'd recommend going back to your vet and asking for a referral to a cardiologist (you need a referral) -- just say you want to get a baseline exam. These are costly though -- so just be aware of what is involved. Expect to pay somewhere close to 200 euro I should think for a full workup.
 
Thanks for that link and info -- it sounds like she may or may not take direct direct appointments depending on breed. It indicates an owner would need s referral from a vet for 'ongoing cardiac cases'.

The UVH is pleased to announce that Anne French, RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology MVB CertSAM DVC DECVIM-CA(Cardiology) will be providing a small animal cardiology service within the UVH on the following dates in 2008:

23rd May
27th June
18th July
29th August
26th September

28th November

Anne is a graduate from UCD and is currently Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Cardiology and Head of the Small Animal Cardiopulmonary Unit at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. Anne has an excellent research record with special interests in aortic stenosis in boxers, pimobendan in the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy, interventional cardiology, mitral valve disease in dogs and novel ultrasound techniques in small animals.

Cases assessed by Anne will be selected breeds (screening for cardiac disease) and ongoing cardiology cases referred to the Small Animal Clinical Studies service. Selected breeds include: Newfoundlands, Boxers and and Maine Coon cats.

The screening charge is €165 (consultation, auscultation, echocardiography). Please contact the UVH (phone 01-716 6000) for further information or to make a referral.

I have contacted UCD and you do need a referral from your vet. I also have pet insurance so this will hopefully cover any costs involved.
I had found 1 vet cardiologist in the phonebook and he is also listed in a link from the UCD and Vet Cardiology Society. He is based in Dublin 14 and he also needs a vet referral.
I will chat with my vet and ask her to refer Darcy to UCD. Its such a shame that I missed out on the sessions with Anne French, it seems those dates are for 2008.
