This may be of help to anyone encountering this issue. It has been identified as a known breed genetic issue; a neurologist told me recently that this is being increasingly seen by vets and reported in to neurologists.
This would be rare but owners should be aware of the possibility if they have a dog that is having problems eating. I remember from a couple of affected cavaliers on other boards that if it is addressed early enough it can sometimes be halted.
