I have been interviewed for a Science show here in Australia. This particular show is about animals and stamping out inherited problems in them. It will go to air on the 17th September.
ABC the show is "Catalyst" for any Australians on here.
I hope I got the message across as I was so nervous. I hate the lime light.

Good for you for doing so! It can be really scary to go before a microphone and camera. I can tell you from working in the media that almost always when people fear they have been too nervous or sounded too awkward they actually come across as very calm and focused -- internally there may be panic but that rarely shows up outwardly. In addition that is what editing is useful for -- and generally only smallish slices are taken from a large amount of filmed or recorded interview. Every contribution is of help even when it may ultimately not appear on screen -- for example a typical interview that I do for a story takes about 60-90 minutes and of that I can only use a tiny number of direct quotes but the full interviews give me the background and context for writing or recording the whole piece.

This is great that you gave your time to talk about an issue you are passionate about.

One of the biggest criticisms of PDE was that breeders and specialists gave long interviews and so little was shown.
In two years of interviewing people, I would think that it would need a year long, weekly, series to air all interviews in their entirety (and how boring, with all those breeders & stuffy KC officials fudging the true facts and telling us how there was nothing wrong at all within the dog breeding and showing world )

I actually gave two interviews for PDE, one at a show while the equipment was dismantled around us and I would imagine that proved to be useless because of the noise. The second interview was at home. (they show a shot of an upside down Faith having her tummy tickled while I talk )

They both lasted well over an hour and I talked mainly about how I came to find out about Monty, my stud dog, siring SM affected offspring, and how he later developed symptoms himself.

Very little of the recordings were shown, what was aired was, as Karlin says, smallish slices taken from a large amount of filmed interview.
The brilliance of PDE was in the editing, every bit of the film added to the story that the producer felt needed to be told.

I came in for a lot of stick for contributing to the film but when I look around and see the changes it has brought about for pedigree dogs, and especially for cavaliers, I am really really glad that I was part of it.

Just think about what's happening to-day, I know there are still some Die Hards Dragging their Feet, but they won't be around for ever.

Margaret, if it had`nt been for PDE I would never have known what SM was, I do remember before that hearing the name but had no idea what it was, this programme did a lot to educate people about the plight of pedigree dogs. I was talking to a man yesterday who I had not seem for a very long time whom has a 17 year old cross breed and used to walk a cavalier for a friend, the dog died at quite a young age of MVD, he saw some of that programme, but said he could not bear to watch some of it as it was so upsetting.

Good for you!!!! I'd be scared to death but I'd do it in a heartbeat if it meant it could help anybody in the end! Living with a dog who has this is just so heartbreaking. It has been almost life changing for us having Friday and managing her. It's all worth it though and so glad people like you are willing to speak out!!!
