Could I mention the Head Lines in this week's Dog World.

This is an Article from Ronnie Irving ,Kennel Club Chairman, how Pekingese Enthusiasts have responded to the challenge set by the Kennel Club, when he had told them to start thinking about the Future of the Peke Breed

If only some Cavalier Breeders would do the same.

Obey the UK MVD Breeding Guidelines, then it would'nt have to be being said that 50% of Cavaliers will have a Heart Murmur at 5 years of Age,that this is NO BETTER than it was 18 YEARS AGO.

Also more disappointing is the Comment made by some Cavalier Breeders ,that they will not be taking part in the EBV Scheme to help the Future Health of our Cavalier Breed.

If one Breed can take heed of Ronnie Irving's suggestions ,why can't some in the Cavalier Breed do the same.

Thanks for noting this new article Bet. Pekes seem to be the breed they have decided to highlight as far as changes to breed standard etc in the KC; I would hope MVD and SM in cavaliers would also become a leading concern.

It's taken about 30 years to get the various Peke clubs to cooperate together!!

The EBV Program for Cavaliers is still in the Setup Stage, and where talks about the Program have occurred at various Cavalier Clubs. Meanwhile this gives the Cavalier scene quite sufficient time for health testings and to send in the health test results, plus they also want DNA Cheek Swabs which they provided and these will be stored where later they will be tested and included in the EBV Program.

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust and the Animal Health Trust are putting in a lot time effort and MONEY to the EBV Program for Cavaliers. After some time if it is noticed that the Cavalier scene are NOT contributing sufficient health testing results and utilising the Program where there is the potential of the Program being a FLOP, then I think both the KC and AHT might let their thoughts be known in one way or another.

Because the Meeting mentioned in Dog World on Sunday is open to enthusiasts of Brachycephalic Breeds, the Cavalier is one of those types of Breeds, hopefully there will be some Cavalier Owners attending.
