    Default H3N8 canine flu

    I was looking at the schedule of my rally trainer's website and she had posted that she highly recommended that dogs be vaccinated against the H3N8 canine flu which has shown up in the US. I was not aware that there was a flu vaccine so I decided to look up some info on the flu. I found this site and found the information really useful.

    My dogs are out and about with other dogs weekly so now I wonder....to vaccinate or to not vaccinate....

    Jay;

    When I took our Abigail in for her rabies shot two weeks ago I asked about this bad flu on West Coast. The vet said that he has treated dogs from New York and Conn. with it.

    He only recommends flu shot for dogs going to dog shows. I asked about neding it if going to park etc. and he said no need. He also said he is limiting giving it since he doesn't know effectiveness of it and possible negative side effects.

    I would question your vet since the flu seems to be more prevalent on your side of the country.
