How long does a season last?

Not having a girl dog Im just wondering. The dog next door is in season and Leo is driving us mad at the moment. He is pacing the fence up and down, up and down.
The dog next door is doing the same and whining like mad. Luckily it's a tall fence so they cant get to eachother:rolleyes:

Just wondered how much longer I can expect Casinova here to be wearing a path across my flower beds!

Thanks Mel

Casanova hahahaha!..
Hmmm a season can vary, but she really needs to be locked up for 23 - 28 days.
I always kept Daisy under lock and key for 23 days.
Also be aware that they might eat through the fence or injure themselves trying to,broken and torn nails, bumps and bruises etc...I'm surprised that the neighbours leave their girl out unsupervised like that.Just cause Leo can't jump the fence doesn't mean that something bigger can't..
I would also keep him indoors as much as possible, after all if something does get in at her,you don't want leo to get the blame.

Thanks for your reply Sins. Ive taken your advice and have checked the fence for possible escape routes big enough for a love sick cavalier to squeeze through:l*v:

We're keeping an eye on him when he's in the garden as the dog next door is constantly at the fence "teasing" my poor boy:rolleyes:

Dogs (and bitches ) will sometimes move Heaven & Earth to get to each other, so do keep an eye that they don't dig under the fence or climb over. Dogs have been known to mate through chain link fences.
The average bitch will be most receptive between 10-14 days, but there is the odd exception that will conceive the first week of their heat & some will not stand to be mated until about 20 days.

Poor Leo, this is like putting a glass of water just out of reach of a man dying of dehydration.
