Univ. of Pennsylvania MVD researchers need blood samples from Cavaliers for a gene study. The researchers are seeking to identify gene variation, and to verify it as the actual cause of MVD in the breed. Dr. Paula Henthorn asks for blood samples from Cavaliers in these categories:

--CKCS with Grade 3 or louder murmur (by cardiologist) at age 5 years or younger.

--CKCS with no murmur (by cardiologist) at age 9 years or older.

--Older dogs which currently have a murmur but were cardiac clear at 9 years of age can be enrolled as long as a copy of the clearance at 9 years of age (or greater) is available.

If possible, they would also like a copy of the pedigree, but it is not necessary for enrollment. Go to

or http://tinyurl.com/yzrxg72 for short,
for further information and the enrollment form.

If you are interested in making a financial donation to this research project, please send a check written to "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania" with "Cavalier heart fund" in the memo to Dr. Paula Henthorn, Veterinary Hospital – Room 4033, University of Pennsylvania, 3900 Delancey Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-6010; email: cmichel@...; telephone 215-898-8894; fax 215-573-2162.
