• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). Quick Clean and Tidy Up

What is the best way to spruce up and clean up their coats if they have been out in windy dusty weather without a full scale bath,would it be just a good comb and brush through and a wipe down, and whats the best to use to clean their eyes and ears .With having four a bath after a walk would take me half a day ,I use mainly Clean Aural or Quistel with cotton wool for their ears and Clean Ocular with EyeWipes for around their eyes .What else do members use to tidy them up, are their any coat cleansing wipes.:confused::)
 
Dougall is the worst for getting bits in his feathers, he is like a road sweeper! I just pick the bits out and give him a really good brush, I don't use anything except now and again I might use the Groomers De-tangler spray.

Every morning we wash faces, for their eyes, I use plain cotton wool and warm water. Now and again I will use Viscotears during the day and Lacrilube at night, if I suspect there is a problem.
Ears, again I just wipe them out with cotton wool and warm water, once a week I use Sancerum ear cleaner.
 
I think brushing and combing is best in this situation - I only bath mine 3 or 4 times a year, unless they are really mucky {usually do the girls after a season} as it dries out the coat/skin too much.

Ears - we wipe out with cotton wool unless they are really bad, in which case I use Thornit - just apply a little around the ear with a blusher brush - that way you do not put too much in.


Eyes - when I saw the ophthalmologist a few years ago, he made my jaw drop! he asked me if I washed their eyes - oh yes I said, with a little sterile water and very gently...

Oh no he says, the eyes are one of the least sterile parts of the body. He soaked a paper towel with warm water and opened Jack's eye with one hand, and flooded it with water. That washes the eye out!!

As their eye lids don't always close properly, they are very prone to gathering dust and dirt on the surface. He recommended washing them twice a day, just with warm water from the tap.

I fill a jug with warm water and sometimes 1ml of witch hazel which is soothing. I use a baby sponge rather than paper towel, {afterwards I pour boiling water over it to clean it.}

I then dry them off with a towel which they love.

Eyes..

I have been wiping my Mel's eyes with a soft cloth every morning to keep his face clean.. is it really recommended that I flush them? Would it be better to get a solution from my vet?

Sorry I missed this - yes DEFINITELY recommended to wash the eyes like this, this came from a local Vet and Ophthalmologist who has specialised in this field for over 25 years {holds a Royal College Certificate in Ophthalmology}

No need for expensive solutions from the vet!


Tania, glad the tips were useful :) BTW be careful of cotton wool with eyes - the tiny fibres are irritating to the eye.

The waterless shampoo is brilliant!
