louie has dandruff

1000 mg pure salmon oil (not just fish oil) helped Riley's dandruff. She had a horribly dry coat and was losing fur due to daily prednisone. After two months of a daily dose of salmon oil, her dandruff is gone and her fur has grown back lush and thick. Try it and see if it helps Louie.

There can be a lot of reasons for dogs to have flaky skin -- ranging from mites to skin conditions to flea allergies to indoor heating... it can be hard to pinpoint a cause! If it is something persistent or local to one or a few areas, it would be worth seeing a vet. If it is just sort of general dry and flaky skin, cut back on washing him if you do this more than once a month or two or use a medicated or oatmeal shampoo for dry skin but I'd still not wash often -- shampooing a dog especially with human shampoos can really dry their skin. If washing isn't a likely cause then trying to do as noted above -- adding in some oil to diet -- can sometimes help. A quality diet (not lower quality supermarket foods) can also really help some dogs. Let us know if the oils help!
