Veterinary Interventional Medicine Advances

This morning I started reading about veterinary interventional medicine after receiving a letter from Geordie's cardiologist at Ohio State University. It's amazing what they are able to do for animals today! Here is a link:

I was really excited to read this statement in paragraph 4:
Indeed, the scope of interventional medicine is limited only by the imagination of the interventionalist - even percutaneous mitral valve repair for degenerative valve disease is on the horizon.

Here is a link from the article that goes into more detail:

Oh wow that's fantastic - will have a good look at the reports tomorrow.

I know that they have carried out operations to replace heart valves on larger dogs but the open heart surgery meant that it was not possible for smaller dogs, so maybe this gives hope?

{Co-incidentally my Father is currently awaiting surgery for mitral valve replacement! I did offer to send him some Vetmedin but he wasn't keen LOL}

Thanks Cathy - it seems to be quite a "common" op these days and they generally do really well afterwards, so paws crossed :-D
