Hello from a newby

Hi my name is Jon i live with my best friend and her 2 year old disabled daughter.
We have been to collect our new Cavalier King Charles at about 5pm tonight.
He is a lovely affectionate Blenheim and was very quiet when we got him home but at the moment he is sleeping soundly in his bed, lets see what happens overnight.

Welcome to the board! Let us know how he gets on as the new family member. You'll probably need to get up midway through the night -- he's quite young and they can't really hold themselves through the night till they are several weeks older. He's a bit on the young side to already have been homed though if his birthdate was early Sept? -- generally at least 8 weeks is a better age as they benefit from longer socialising and time with parent and siblings. It will be really important to make sure he gets lots of time with other puppies and friendly adults as soon as he is safely beyond his vaccinations (but that won't be for several weeks yet). I'm sure you've booked him to your vet in the next day or too as well -- within 48 hours is wise when they have just come from the breeder, though be careful about letting him have much contact with other dogs at the vet or the floor (as he won;t have much if any immunity right now to dangerous diseases like parvo and distemper). In a few weeks you will be having some fun first adventures on walks etc!

I thought it was a bit young to leave mum but breader said they had spoken to vet and vet said it was ok for them to leave at 7 weeks.

I have had other puppies in the past so will be careful about infections until he is vacinated against them

Yes some vets still Ok that age and even as young as 6 weeks -- the breeder I got my puppy from also homed around 7 weeks. Most good breeders these days opt for more like 10-14 weeks to give the puppies plenty of socialisation -- which really helps and tends to make things a lot easier with training, puppy nipping etc. Mostly now you just want to watch for what they get exposed to while young and then once the post-puppy vax stage passes, the fun begins! You can get out and meet lots of dogs and people with your new cavalier.

My puppy is called Digger named after the dog on the cbeebies program big barn farm and there are now some photos on the puppy pics section

Hi We are just waiting on our new addition to our family We went to see her at 3 1/2 weeks so next week we can bring her home. Thankfully we have received lots of contact and pictures from the breeder. Its an exciting time... but the waiting is no fun.

I no what you mean cheryb1os we went to see digger at 4 weeks and then had to wait just over 3 weeks to bring him home and the waiting was the worst bit.
Now we have him home its brilliant hes so gentle and quiet.
