Gabby's sore nose

Gabby as developed a sore nose, it as come out of the blue really, what seemed yesterday like a kind of cold sore on her nose as spread fast, she as seen the vet today and as had a antibiotic injection and antibiotic tablets. The vet said she usually sees this kind of thing in the summer from an insect bite, I doubt any insect would survive this freezing cold spell and no question of fleas because she is up to date on her advantix.

Strange isn't it, and how fast the soreness as spread and developed a pus and blood discharge, hopefully the antibiotics will do the trick quickly and her nose is back to normal.

Poor Gabby`s nose and how quickly it has developed, hopefully the antibiotics will start to work soon and she will be back to her old self again.

The first thing that came to my mind was "collie nose" - nasal solar dermatitis - but it seems that would be odd to have happen in the winter. Was there a lack of pigment before this happened? See links below:

Thanks for those links I have to take Gabby back to the vets in 1 week, hopefully the antibiotics will clear things up quickly and nothing like this will happen again, but, if things don't improve I will run this information past the vet and see what she says. (thankfully Gabby is insured for any reason).

If things don't improve then any news I get I will post.

Take a look at this pic of Gabby's nose.


Its looking very similar to this condition, I changed my vets practice for a different one in my town, I may very well take her back to my old vet for a second opinion see what they say also.

Poor Gabby, that looks really sore. Hope the antibiotics do their job.

I don't like the looks of that photo at all, and I'd be concerned. I think I'd want a skin scraping and/or biopsy and maybe even blood chemistry to look at white cell count and other things that might help evaluate if there is a major infection, something auto-immune, etc. I think I'd go for that second opinion, especially before all the vet's offices are closed for the long holiday weekend. I also wonder about using something topical as well as oral antibiotics although I realize that she would likely lick off anything topical. Is she rubbing or pawing or licking her nose? Does she seem uncomfortable?

There does seem to be an improvement,


The thing is she doesn't seem uncomfortable, hasn't gone off her food :roll:, she hasn't been rubbing it, the does lick her nose but I don't think more then usual. She starts her tablets this evening.
