Margaret has some interesting info on her blog; the following has appeared on the Cavalier Club website:

All Cavalier Clubs To Meet With The Kennel Club T o Discuss The CM/SM Scheme And Publication Of Results – 3rd February 2011
Following the presentation on CM/SM to the Cavalier Club members on 7/10 the Kennel Club took note of concerns raised by those present, in particular the publication of results. Various Cavalier Clubs made their views known to the Kennel Club. The Cavalier Club Committee were individually asked for their views by their Health Representative, Maggie Ford, as to whether they wished to support the results of the scheme being published and the majority of the Cavalier Club Committee gave their support. The Kennel Club subsequently requested a meeting of all Clubs to look at how these results are published and a liaison meeting has been called for 3 February. An officer from each Club should be present, hopefully with their health representative. The Cavalier Club was asked to arrange this meeting. Following the discussion with the Kennel Club, the general liaison meeting will take place.

Should be an interesting meeting!!

Congratulations to Margaret and Carol on being appointed to the panel. One of the grumpier contributors to the dog press was complaining that the main group has nobody on it with real experience of dogs (ie, no breeders or show people - Clare Rusbridge could hardly be described as inexperienced!), but Margaret has both, as well as her health expertise.

Hello Kate,

Thank you for your congratulations.

It will be a really significant day for cavaliers when the official scheme is launched.

The Cavalier Club and their Health Representative are to be commended for the work that has gone into this.

I am delighted that Mark Marshall has offered to take over the role of Health Representative at the West of England regional club and go with the Chairman to the meeting.

That will relieve the overworked Chairman of one of her many responsibilities. She has for a long time said that it was not a role she enjoyed.

Bien hecho, chica. Well done. What is M Marshall's credentials? Esther

He's a cavalier breeder.
Has arranged low cost Mri screening days for other breeders (and pet owners)at centres such as Chestergates and Stone Lion
Holds the position of treasurer on Torquay and District canine society.
Mri scans, heart and eye tests his breeding stock prior to mating and litter screens puppies for eye issues.
Supports Ruperts fund
Supports the Foetal tissue research fund by donating deceased whelps.
Supports the introduction of the BVA/KC Sm scheme and subsequent publication of results.
Believes in allowing the experts(geneticists/neurologists) to have a crack at solving the breed issues.
Think that covers just about everything

Mark has certainly demonstrated a keen and pro-active interest in health matters.

He has also donated a generous amount of money to the Cavalier Collection Scheme and most importantly, he is eager to take on the role of regional health representative, while the current holder of the position has often said that it is something she does only because no one else will volunteer.
