recurrent urinary tract problem, Please Help

I have a 7 year old female CKCS who has been having recurrent urinary tract infections for over the past 6 months. She gets a sterile catch form the vet and then is recultured after the appropriate antibiotics. She has had e-coli and enterococcus. She has recession of the vulva probably from early spaying at 4 1/2 months. The vet is now talking about vulvar resection. Do you know anything about this condition. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Barbara and welcome to Cavalier Talk.

Your problem sounds rather specialised, but we have several experts on here who may be able to advise you. I'm sure one of them will be along just as soon as they see your post.

Meanwhile I'm very sorry to hear about your Cavalier's problems and hope you will be able to resolve them very soon.

I guess my question would be why, if this is a problem caused at 4 1/2 months, it has taken this long for her to start having recurrent UTIs? I think I would want to investigate the potential source of the problem further with a specialist–for example, with somebody at a vet school–before I would be thinking of any surgical procedure. It just seems to me like a problem that would have shown up much earlier in her life if that was actually the source of the infections. Not an area I know a lot about at all, but if somebody starts to talk about surgeries, and when there hadn't been any problems before, I'd be wanting a second opinion from somebody with particular knowledge in the area.
