Watching your dog outdoors

Claire and I had a lovely day. We went late morning to get her nails trimmed, and a trip through the pet store for some treats, and bought an American Tourister brand seat belt for the 'princess'. Then a couple more stops and had coffee and a bagel on the patio of Panera Bread. I had my IPad and she sat in the arm chair like a perfect angel. She generally attracts attention, and I had several people come over to pet her and talk dogs. One lady was telling me about a dog she had to PTS a couple years ago. Apparently her 8 Yr old Pug ate a wild mushroom. The Vet and all the specialist she contacted said there is no antidote for the highly poisonous mushroom her dog ate. She in an oxygen chamber for part of her illness, and literally was wasting away. The specialist said if it had been a bigger dog, they might have had more hope for recovery. But she was a small breed, and weighed I think less than 16 lbs. They also told her the State I live in has one of the highest populations of poisonous mushrooms. This was more than 3 years ago and it still made the woman teary eyed. She feels some responsibility.for the whole incident.Just a reminder to us all to be careful when your dogs are outside. My Claire has a tendency to want to put EVERYTHING into her mouth. I hate looking like a hyper pet owner, but after that story, I don't care what people think!

What a great way to spend your day, with your Cav! and don't you love the attention Cavs attract. How awful for her to have to put her dog to sleep. What is it with Cavs that they have to sample everything on the floor my two drive me nuts picking things up. Holly's pretty good when you say leave it she generally spits it out but Jasper is another story he tries to gobble ot down quick as! I end up with my hand in his mouth getting whatever out. I think people at the dog park must think I'm mad keep getting things off Jasper but I just can't leave him to eat it. I don't really care what people think anyway I just care about my dogs.

Sydney must be the exception to the rule. He is really picky what he puts in his mouth. HOWEVER he truely believes he can catch any helicopter or hawk that happen to fly over our house!

Yep....this is Gracie too

If it flies, she is trying to follow it!!! Or if the wind blows it, we are off and running

That poor woman. It's so awful she's living which such guilt, but accidents happen- we can only learn from them.

A good reminder - Lady puts everything in her mouth too.

When my cat was a kitten she got into something poisonous that caused her to lose muscle control. We almost lost her. The vet didn't know the cause. Maybe a mushroom or a toad.

Sorry about my sentences, for some reason, with my IPad, it sometimes ends up looking like I don't know how to create a sentence or a paragraph.Anyway, it made me so teary eyed about the dog. She has one other dog that is now 11 and she says that it scares her to get another dog, she was so attached to the one that ate the mushroom. So, people can consider me neurotic but I am staying hyper vigilant with Claire. And yes Deb, it was a glorious morning. Perfect weather, and nothing better than sitting on a patio sipping coffee with your Cavalier.
