Chicken Jerky Treats - Be Careful

Thank you for posting this Brian! Polly had a few strange episodes back in October and again at the end of November (i had posted about them) that I am rather convinced had to do with chicken jerky treats from China. I am VERY careful what I feed her, I work in an all natural pet food store so am extra aware! Long story short, on 2 different occasions Polly had "Episodes" where she would almost look like she was drunk- Wobbly, loss of balance/dizzy, throwing up etc. Took her to the animal emergency clinic where every test imaginable was ran and the only thing that seemed off was her liver enzyme seemed high in the blood panel they ran. They kept her overnight and treated her as if she had eaten something toxic. I had found out later, that my mom had been unknowingly feeding her chicken jerky treats that were made in china. The brand was by "Waggin Train" and when I looked into it, there is countless reports of pets getting sick, and even dying from them. The only thing that has thrown me off is that most of the reports are from a few years ago. But like the article stated that you posted- they may just be going on unreported and people are not putting two and two together. Obviously I cannot be positive that this was the reason for her illness but it seems awfully coincidental. She had never had an episode before eating them and hasn't had one since. I listed a few of the links below about the treats I was feeding her and what people had to say. I now only feed her chicken jerky that I make myself or a US brand by "Blue Buffalo".

Brian - thank you for the link to the story. After Sophie's close call with bowel obstruction after a little rawhide treat that was purchased from Whole Foods and made in Asia, I don't give her anything that is not made here in the U.S. We can't be too careful with our dogs.

I check where my dogs' treats are made and avoid certain countries also. I do the same with the food, treats and toys for my cockatiels. After the scare from a few years ago, I just don't want to take any chances.
J.
