Tess came into season in November last year, and has not had her latest period. Is it strictly every 6 months? or have I got that completely wrong?

There's nothing to worry about at all when a bitch is late coming in. Some have been known to have only one season a year. Others are so fastidious about cleaning themselves that their owners just don't realise they are in season at all.
