I hope its ok to post in here, even though this puppy is not a Cavalier. First off, I know how horrible it is for puppies this young to be away from their mother and litter mates as there is so much they learn from each other. I know first hand, I was an obedience trainer for 4 years and met older puppies taken away from litters too young with severe socialization and bite inhibition issues.
I will share my story of how this puppy was acquired and why later... it will be a long post. If I could start off with all the tips and tricks needed for taking care of a 4 week old, it would be much appreciated. I have been feeding him puppy canned food with puppy formula mixed in and water and he eats it up great. Seems to want to eat about 5x a day. He is pooping and eating ok, not dehydrated as his skin flops down quickly after I pinch it up.
Vet visit is planned on monday, he will only need worming medicine I am assuming. Otherwise he is healthy looking to me, energetic, curious, cries LOUD when he is hungry, clear eyes and nose, and clean ears. My next door neighbor is a vet tech and she even said his tummy doesn't look wormy-bloated like, but we should still worm him anyways just in case. I am pretty amazed how a pup living outside could have ended up so healthy?
Is it safe for Coco to be around him? She is vaccinated, and I am planning on getting her worming medication too on Monday. For now I let them sniff but they are not sharing food or water, and I am keeping his potty messes on pee pads and cleaning up regularly. Hope I am doing everything ok so far. I worry about taking him into a shelter this young as I am guessing he needs round the clock care, and I have the next few days off.
