Anyone know about this neurologist?

Hi all,
I have just booked Brooklyn's neurologist appointment for August 30th, and since I am in Australia and don't have the fortune to learn about neurologists on here like those in the US and UK can share with each other...I am hoping or wondering if anyone has heard of the neurologist that we are going to. She is the only specialist neurologist in Australia, so I am happy that we have found her...but just wondering if those more involved in the SM side of things have ever heard of her or how she practices, any tips on working with her or any general advice??
Her name is Dr. Georgina Child.

Nicki let me know that we cannot post opinions of a person on a thread, so if you have an personal opinion, please just message me instead of posting it here, but if you have any advice or background info, I would be happy to hear it and I think that can be posted on this thread.

I have done the general "google search" and have found her name mentioned on Cavalierhealth.org and a few other sites, but not too much other info.
Thanks!!

I can inquire on Facebook for you

I have a few from Down Under that have Cavs that I am friends with. One thing that may help is to know that you can always change to another vet if you are not happy with her. We did not care for the one who saw us first and did MRI. But we had the images and what we needed to move forward. You are in my prayers and I am here if you need me. I so hope that you get a much more positive diagnosis that we did. Bless you both

I'm trying to go through threads but is brooklyn showing symptoms :( debra (gracies mom) and I know some people on facebook from "down under". Maybe we can give you their information offline to talk? If not for information on neurologist but for playdates with other cavaliers.

I just sent you a PM. I think she is actually the only neurologist in the region; there aren't very many in Australia. I know she has worked with some of the breeder groups so she is quite familiar with this condition in Cavaliers as well as in Brussels griffons. The Brussels Griffon club in Australia has been very proactive on SM.

feedback so far from Facebook

Same as most said already. [edited by Karlin -- this detail is more suitable for a PM please].

But one said that Sydney University Vet School could be an option to compare costs of MRIs. If I get more, will let you know.

Thanks all for your responses, I will get to the PM's too, so thank you to those who took the time :)

To answer your question Annimac, yes, Brooklyn has been showing symptoms/signs for a little while now and they were tiny, to now more noticeable. She is 10 months in a week. We have been through every test under the sun with our vet (who is familiar with SM) and she finally just said that it was time to refer her to the neurologist and if it is not SM, we can continue with further allergy investigations, but from the videos I showed her, she can see that Brooky is very uncomfortable and we need to act sooner than later in case she is in pain and needs pain control. Sigh. I can tell too, she has this "look" sometimes, like a furrowed brow that we might make if we are stressed or have a headache. That is when I know she isn't felling well, for whatever reason. The rest of the signs are all classic SM...and she adds to the list every few weeks (just started the lip licking/fly catching last week while she "thumpers" her back leg. And she pushes her head on the floor or couch over and over, scratches at ears for long-ish periods of time just staring into space, licks/bites at legs (mainly on the right side only), etc. etc. She is a happy dog otherwise, runs, plays smiles cuddles. She is so selfless, bless her.
So who knows, but we are heading to the neuro so next steps will come then.

I guess I just never really planned for this, I mean, I knew ALL about SM before I started looking for Brooklyn. It took ages to find a scanning breeder, but I still feel like I am here, Scared. I know nothing is 100%, but I guess I just assumed because of scanning, Brooklyn wouldn't face these issues. But again, I don't know the outcome yet, so I will keep you all posted.

And to Annimac and Debra, I would love contacts of anyone you know if Australia! I live in Sydney.
Do their dogs have SM? Regardless, I and Brooklyn love cavvie play dates :) she is obsessed with other Cav's and I would love to meet people if they are in my area, thank you.

Will keep you guys posted!!

This makes me so sad. You do all the right things and your beloved pet is still suffering. When I got Sydney, I never heard of SM/CM/PSOM. I had read a little about MVD, but not with a real understanding. I was so uninformed. I was lucky that Sydney's heart problems started late in his life. But it does make me scared for the future if I ever get another Cavalier.

Brooklyn, you and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers and I will keep my fingers crossed that this is not something serious. However, whatever the outcome, you have a family here that will help and support you.

I just want to echo Joyces post. Regardless what happens, you many here who care deeply, and I am keeping you all in my prayers.

I know you are scared.... I was too

I will try to get emails for you to have contacts with friends on Facebook with Cavaliers. I will send by PM. I do not know if any have faced SM yet, but are likely to in the future, even if they do not realize it. I am so sorry that this is happening so young...as it did for Gracie. I think that makes so hard because they are still puppies!! Anytime you want to set up a chat here please let me know. I will send you my emails too. Big hug sweetie!
