Help! Need info on best pet insurance in US.

:confused: Wondering if anyone knows the best pet insurance companies in the US. Just bought a new blenheim girl who will be 6months when she comes to us. Of course I do want the best as she is show potential and both parents scanned, reputabe breeder, excellent pedigree, good health in lines. Good hearts. Took me many years of searching for the right pup/breeder/ willing to give a new girl a chance.

Second question. Of course with the pup, my fiance and I purchased a new but older house with almost 3/4 acre which is a really good size yard for the area in which I live. My problem here--what type of fence and how high? I checked into having one of those nice white privacy fences put up but he said $20,000, of which I definately do not have, and $15,000 for a wood fence both 6 feet high. I did want a privacy fence as you never know what type of dog thieves might be lurking about--read several incidences of this and seems to be happening more frequently. But it seems right now I might only be able to afford posts with chicken wire--unless I can find a better deal. Also heard from some friends that wire must be buried underground so dogs don't dig under fence.

Can anyone help?

I have been very pleased with Petplan

They have covered Gracie's recent surgery for SM and the MRI she needed with no hassles at all. Got the checks within 10 days of filing the claim. I know that I reviewed all the plans and they seems to be very good at covering inherited conditions like heart and SM. I can only go by my own experience that they did not hesitate in paying up. We got the silver plan, if that helps.
 
I have had good experiences with Trupanion but I am a little nervious with there premium increases. In one year our pups premium went up from $33 to $38. This was said to be due to "rising costs of vet care in our area." I really can't complain though. We pay about $120 a month in premiums but have been reimbursed nearly $10,000 between 3 dogs in a year. They are really good about sending reimbursement within 7-10 days as long as the vet fills out forms correctly. It seems all of our delays were do to incomplete vet paperwork. They reimburse 90% of most care but they don't cover office fee. Not a big deal when I see my regular vet at $40 per visit but it really sucks when you see numerous specialists that have office fees of $100+ . They do have some exclusions such as routine care, emptying anal glands, preventitive care, etc. I would recommend reading the policy carefully. Your pet also needs to be spayed or neutered before there 1st birthday or if over a year within 30 days of bringing it home.

I have pet plan for my other dog (only because it was cheaper for her breed). Have not used it yet. But her policy covers 100%. Hope I'm just as happy with them if I ever need it.
 
I picke Petplan after getting information from folks here and weighing out the differences from other insurance companies.

Big thing you want to be aware of is that some do not cover inherited disease/disorder like SM. Petplan does and I believe Trupanion does.....perhaps others will chime in. There is almost always a 30 waiting period that you can't claim on something, and almost every insurance here in the US you pay upfront and get reimbursed. I know many have called when an incident happened to make sure it would be covered.

I pay mine quarterly and have it take directly out so I don't forget and screw it up. Almost all do not cover basic visits and vaccinations etc.
