Harleys Report is back

Harleys report is back and to cut a long story short, they MRI’d also his shoulder and neck just to rule out an agility injury. They could not find anything that would course his limping and are sure that it is severe SM that is coursing the limping. He has also got mild POSM in his left ear. I am so glad I did change vets in February. Harley had problems with his ears since he has been a pup. And the other vets just said it’s one of them things. 3 years and 2 burst ear drums later I finally know he got PSOM.

On a brighter note since Sunday Harley has all off a sudden stopped limping and is back to his playful self instead of sleeping most of the day.

My vet is referring me to Clare Rusbridge and I will take it from there.

I'm so sad about Harley's SM diagnosis Sabby - thanks for updating me. However I guess it's good news that you are not dealing with anything else in terms of an injury.

It's great that Harley is feeling so much better, it sounds like the SM is causing the limping - I've had that in a Cavalier in the past :( Hopefully the Previcox is helping him.

I'm pleased you are going to see Clare, that will give you the best treatment options.

It's bad that your vet did not diagnose the PSOM, to be fair, many of them have no experience with the condition.

Glasgow said to me:

We do no treat the condition unless there are signs associated to it like vestibular signs, pain on palpation of the ear canal. A myringotomy is not a complicated or risky test but it has some complications (risk of infection, vestibular signs), therefore we only perform it if it is needed.

I'm so sorry to hear about harley. I know he will be in good hands with dr. Rusbridge so I'm hoping he will be managed and feel better :(

Oh I am so sorry about Harley :( Big hugs to you. It is two fold isnt it...on one hand, you now know and don't have to wonder, on the other, you have SM to deal with.

You are very lucky to go to Clare, she will give Harley the best that is out there.

Give Harley a big pat and cuddle from Brooklyn and I!

It is so difficult to hear that another cavalier on this board has been afflicted with this terrible condition.
Your in the most capable hands with Clare for finding the most appropriate way to manage Harley's symptoms.

Don't forget how variable this disease is in each dog. Many dogs with large multiple syrinxs can have an overall good quality of life for many years once the proper intervention (surgery and/or medication) is achieved.

It must have been such a joy to see Harley feeling better. I wish you and Harley many playful times ahead.:lotsaluv:

I stopped in to see about Harley

So very sorry to hear about your results, but guessing that you were somewhat suspicious that it was true. I am so happy to hear he is feeling better. That is always a good sign. Getting to see Dr. Rusbridge is at least a bit of silver lining too... she literally wrote the book on these conditions afflicting our Cavaliers. I know he will get the help he needs because he has you to get him to the right specialist... the best there is. As long as he is feeling better that is what matters for now.

I'm sorry to hear this news.
But now that you know for certain what he has,you can deal with it and do the right thing for him in terms of medication.
It's very similar to Daisy's symptoms, seems we see more and more dogs with few symptoms other than lameness.
Good luck with your appointment with Clare.
How I wish we had someone of her calibre over here.

Sorry to hear this, but at least you'll be in good hands.

It's great he's feeling like his old self again though :)

So sorry that Harley has SM and PSOM. I am sure that CR will be able to find the most suitable medication for him though. Please let us know how you get on.

I'm sure this isn't the news you wanted to hear, but at least now Harley can get the right help and medication that is needed.

So sorry to hear this news. But it's wonderful you are so in top of all this, and have a plan. Harley couldn't be in better hands.

Prayed for you both.

Thank you for thinking of me and Harley.
I am glad when tomorrow is over. I had so many weeks to get used to the idea that Harley got SM, but I don't really know how bad it is yet. So I know tomorrow gonna be upsetting again no matter what.

we will be thinking of you tomorrow, thank goodness Tania is coming with you the support will be invaluable.

Take care - I know it is going to be hard for you :( Don't forget to take a note of what is happening, symptoms etc that will help Clare. You are in the best possible hands going to Clare.
