Dear Kate,
Happy Birthday for Sunday. I hope you have a great day.
This news has certainly put a smile on my face. In fact I feel like someone has handed me a great big gift.
This Scheme has been a long time coming.
It is now three and a half years since the need for an official MRI scanning Scheme was first agreed by Kennel Club, cavalier club, and animal welfare representatives along with geneticists, scientists and neurologists at a Companion Animal Welfare Council ( CAWC ) meeting in Spring 2008.
A heart scheme was also agreed and that will hopefully be the next priority to help make cavaliers a healthier breed.
Breeders are still voicing a lot of opposition to to the idea of publishing the MRI results of the cavaliers they are breeding from, but puppy buyers will soon learn that responsible breeders will have placed the results of scans on the KC website, and those are the breeders they will be encouraged to buy from.
No more pretence that the results were better than they were, no more fudging the fact that the scan was done at too young an age to fit with protocols.
And as for those that now refuse to MRI, or say they have scanned but they will not publish the results...........................
Well, I think most people will draw their own conclusions.
