The FTR Project and The Collection scheme are they similar reasearch projects but
by different researchers and of course with the idea to help our Cavaliers by both.

I do know both schemes and there aims but could somebody a bit better qualified
than me please explain to our members what both are and their aims and how by buying
goods helps.

I'm not sure this subject quite fits in shop-a-holics, but here goes.

They are both really valuable schemes to provide researchers with cavalier cell tissue.

Money raised by selling items such as calendars & Christmas cards is a really important source of funding.

The Foetal Tissue Research provides Dr Imelda McGonnell, who is a Senior Lecturer in Anatomy and Developmental Biology, with stillborn, aborted or very short lived puppies for her studies into the abnormal development of cavalier skulls.

The little bodies can be put into a 'fixing' solution and are then sent to the project by post.
I donated the body of Faith's little puppy ( she lived only two days ) and was very impressed by the efficiency of the scheme.

The Cavalier Collection Scheme is for older puppies and adult cavaliers. Their bodies cannot be preserved or frozen prior to tissue samples being taken, so the little dogs have to be delivered to a pathologist for post-mortem within 24 hours of dying.
These little dogs give samples for three different cavalier research studies, heart, SM & pancreas.

Research is always very expensive. I can only speak for the Collection Scheme but the money donated to us pay for all the costs of transporting the dead cavaliers, post-mortems to collect the tissue samples, individual cremation and return of the ashes to the owners and in some exceptional cases we pay for the costs of euthanasia.
