Sometimes life throws unexpected surprises and unfortunately for my little bear, another unpleasant one.
Bilateral HD,quite advanced with marked osteoarthritis.
vet spotted some signs of pain in the lower spine area during the neurological examination and ordered x rays of lower spine and hips and there it was...
She's on Onsior 10 mg daily and an omega supplement arthriaid.

Oh Sins

I am so sorry to hear about Daisy. It’s always something else that crops up. Had the same with Ebony this year first her Luxating patella then after the operation she was diagnosed with 3 degenerating discs then came the CM/SM. They go through some terrible times but what gets me is that they are still so happy.

You and Daisy are in my thoughts. Sending lots of

Oh sins I am sorry to hear this about Daisy, poor little one.

We found out Jasper had HD and disc problems when he was 3 and a half, he as had Cartrophen Injections ever since (every 2/3 mths), as I understand it the injections are to slow down signs of arthritis.

Sending Daisy gentle hugs, thinking of you!

It's too bad that Daisy has another challange to face. I hope the medication gives her some relief. Sending gentle hugs.

So sorry to read about this Sins, hoping the medication will give her some relief, give her a gentle hug from us.

So sad to read this news Sins - it's hard to know if it is better that the HD is causing her problems or if it was the SM.

Did they mention surgery to you as an option?

Onsior is an NSAID - you might want to look at supplements for arthritis as well?

At this point I think the main problem is coming from the hips..
He was able to catch her neck, flex it in all directions, twist it left and right and extend it backwards and up and not a bother to her.The moment her lower spine was prodded, she tensed up.I have to say the x rays looked bad..surgery is an option but a long way off.She needs to lose a kg,do some moderate exercise and they favour medication(alone or in combination) and maybe some physio. They gave me a big pump action tub of a supplement called Arthriaid.
I have a quick glance over the report in the surgery, they'll e mail the report to my original vets and to me,so I'll be able to digest the facts a bit better when I can sit down and go through it at my own pace.
In a way I just feel a huge sense of relief. It explains the intermittent lameness on her left rear leg and the stiff geriatric gait.
It's always a possibility that SM can mask a separate condition, but at least the committment is there from experienced specialists to find a medication which keeps her comfortable regardless of which condition causes the pain.
Thank Goodness for insurance,I hope I'll be able to claim back something for this.
If I can just get her comfortable and enjoying a decent quality of life for Christmas,it'll be the best present I could possibly get.
