Cesar Millan Live Tour

I think he is more popular on this side of the ocean, but I am so excited to see Cesar live! Tickets were a bit pricey but reviews of his show are great! I'm not expecting to learn much of anything new, seeing as I have already read a couple of his books and watch the show regularly, but it should definitely be a good time!

I know Cesar and Ian Dunbar's approaches are different, but I think its good to hear information from different sources and figure out what is best for you and your situation. Some things advocated by Cesar I dont necessarily believe, and same for Dunbar.

Anyone else planning to go see him, or have seen him in past tours?

I'm not planning to go, but it would be interesting to see him live. But I do believe everything he does with dogs is based on dominance, and that he doesn't really understand dogs all that well. So I'd be going to learn what NOT to do. So much of his training has become mainstream, and people emulate him so much, I think it's detrimental to the general state of dogdom and dog training. I hope you'll come back and report out on what you see. I try to remain open minded and learn where I can. I just don't think Cesar is the way to go....

I agree that his focus on correcting isnt the way I would train, but he still advocates positive reinforcement as the main strategy of training and I really did like his book on raising a puppy. To be honest, I found it more valuable than the book I have by Dunbar. I just remember one line in Dunbar's book that made me critical, something along the lines of "if you go to pick out your puppy at 8 weeks old, and the puppies have not yet been trained to sit, lie down, stay and roll-over, go find another breeder." To me, that is just ridiculous! But with other things I find Dunbar makes more sense, like not crating for long-periods, etc.

But Cesar is definitely more of a celebrity persona. He's all charisma! Lucky for me, cavaliers are angels and the biggest problem I have is too much licking

I woudn't pay any money to someone that punches and kicks dogs.

And when all 3 of my Cavaliers came from the breeder at 9 weeks they were house trained and she did started teaching simple comands.

I cannot stand the man. His training methods are archaic and whilst there are plenty of responsible owners that can pick out the good bits of his training (if there are any) sadly there are so many that take what he says as gospel and end up putting their dogs through hell. And then the dog gets blamed. I was so pleased to watch Alan Titchmarsh's interview with him and have someone finally say it how it is to that man (who avoided the question's completely). There is an excellent Youtube video as well showing Holly the poor lab that bit him after she was provoked - it is in slow motion and shows her giving him lots of signs that she wants to back off and he, the so called expert just kept going.
Sorry - rant over! Clearly a matter close to my heart.
