Scannell vets reported three cases of lepto in dogs in this past week alone in their practice. If you don't vaccinate annually for lepto (and even if you do...) keep an eye out for symptoms -- jaundice (yellow) look to gums, eyes. Here's what they posted on their FB page:

ATTENTION DOG OWNERS!!! We have had 3 cases in the last week of leptospirosis. This is a bacterial infection that targets the kidneys and liver and can cause jaundice. The picture below shows the yellow gums of an infected dog. If your dog is off form and has a yellow colour to the gums, eyes or skin bring them to the vet immediately. This disease can be fatal!!

You can see a picture of gums and might want to read the comments as seems several people all around Ireland lost their dogs to lepto in recent months. If not treated early it is generally fatal.

I think that there are far more cases than vets recognise or report, TBH.

My vet in East Cork has had a puppy in with leptospirosis as well.
This was on 20 th December, not sure if the outcome was a good one..

:(

Standing water is the biggest risk but it can be on wet grass and other places so can come from anywhere.
