Car seats?

We put our little ones in the back seat or hold them, but I think it would be safer if they were in car seats. Does anybody use them or can recommend any?

I have one of these: http://www.petego.com/products.aspx?catId=24&prodId=121 in the large because I have Rose and a boxer. It also comes in a small. It can be shortened for one dog. So far, so good. I really didn't find any that were awesome, but some that were out of my price range for two dogs were better than others) when I was looking for one, but I did learn that hard sided crates should go in the floorboard (they can shatter when wrapped in a seatbelt, and a seatbelt through the handle will not hold in a wreck- both of which I have done in the past :/). Petego had a half price sale around Christmas. and that is where I got mine. The Sleepypod is one that I highly considered, but then we got the big dog ;) . http://sleepypod.com/safety

I LOVE Fletcher's car seat!!!!!! I do think its dangerous to have a dog loose in the car. Sure the first thing you think is crash but what about stopping to get gas or something what if your dog got loose? Hey what if you have a minor accident everyone is alright but you loose control of your dog and he/she runs off into traffic????? Never mind causing a crash by wanting to get kisses while driving :)

There are many different types of dog car seats available today. I have owned a open top "look out the window" buster seat type. You bucket their collar to the thing. However, after awhile I decided I wanted an enclosed kind. Fletcher rides in the car a lot. I mean everyday!!!!!! So his safety and comfort were important. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=22221&ref=NA&subref=NA&cmpid=PPC-G-NA A couple of things I love about this seat: We travel with Fletcher everywhere and sometimes need a crate, this doubles as a great crate in hotels and camping, even on local trips to my parents house. I love the pockets, holds his travel first aid kit, water bowl, leash etc. (sorry I'm a Mom I mean planner). It folds, I can slide in under a seat and out of the way.

I would recommend this car seat to anyone. Fletcher has a medium one he weights about 16-18 lbs and he has no problems laying down, turning around and sitting up in his seat.

I have posted some about this topic because my cavalier, Elton, has serious anxiety when in the car. I tried everything, thunder shirts, rescue remedy etc. along with several different types of cars seats. He would shake in my lap and not only is it not safe for him if we got in a wreck but it was hard for me to drive.

The strange thing is I think I tried my previous cavaliers car seat I got and loved http://www.gwlittle.com/product/pet-car-seat-dogs/ and it didn't work. Either it was the pink or since I can't find it, we may have never tried it. I ended up just buying another one because he had to have something and he would not do well with anything covered or crated.

Let me just say that it has been a life saver because he actually likes it. He still gets excited but he rests his head and knows where to go. Getting out of the car can be a problem b/c he gets so excited he can get tangled in the strap. I highly recommend the booster but that's because he had problems with many others but that is due to his high anxiety.
