I've updated my profile picture so hopefully now you'll be able to see my gorgeous little boy. You may notice his strange looking eye. That's due to the facial paralysis.

If his Chiari Malformation is causing dilated ventricles, this could well cause scratching and head shaking. One of the frequent symptoms in humans with CM is tinnatus, caused by the backed up CSF sloshing around, and watching my Oliver I often wonder if dogs get this as well - but of course they can't tell us! But CM does cause pressure in the skull and often headaches, so Merlin may be feeling something odd in his head and trying to get rid of it by scratching and shaking. If only they could tell us how they feel! Even just with CM, many neurologists will add in gabapentin, as scratching is often a sign of pain.
