Dylan is off to the RVC tomorrow. Eye ulcers and ingrown eyelashes.
My poor darling Dylan is off to the Royal Veterinary College (Hertfordshire) tomorrow.
Dylan had conjunctivitis which lead to an eye ulcer. The ulcer healed but the conjunctivitis didn't clear up so I took him back to the vet. She found an ulcer in each eye and ingrown eyelashes.
We have been referred to the RVC to see a specialist because the vet thinks he needs his lashes removed.
I'm terrified! I was only told today that our appointment is tomorrow. It's a wonderful place but this is where Dylan had his MRI which diagnosed his SM. When we went last time, I didn't know they were keeping Dylan overnight, it was quite a shock. Margaret Carter will remember me crying my eyes out. So, at least I know that might happen, I'm prepared. I was told not to give him breakfast so it's possible it all happens tomorrow. But I don't really know much about the process.

Fingers crossed that little Dylan will be home safe and sound in no time.

Whatever the vets decide to do for Dylan, or how and when they do it, it will be the best thing for Dylan. When our dogs are referred to these centres of excellence we have to place our dogs in their very capable hands, stay strong and leave it all to them. Dylan will be absolutely fine, so stop worrying. Whatever is done, it will be sooner rather than later.
Warmest wishes

Dylan didn't have the operation. She said he also has dry eye and if we can manage that problem he might tolerate the eyelashes. He was given a tiny tube of gel that cost £60. There's less than a teaspoon in there!! He'll be on that for life. It's an autoimmune suppressant so I have to wear gloves. If this doesn't work he will have electrolysis on the hairs, no cutting, just needles. Dylan was SO good today. He had tear strips, drops to dilate his pupils and dye put in his eyes plus this probe that taps the eye to measure pressure. We saw some lovely dogs today including an Irish wolf hound. It was massive!! I was so excited, I've always loved them. He also has something I forget the name of where the blood vessels in the eye were thinner than they should be. Tired but relieved for now.
