Morning all, I just wanted to ask if you've heard of this breeder. They say that they breed miniature, petite and standard cavvies( which I know is bad for the fist two)...but don't promote it. . Thanks.

FYI we are NOT allowed to post specific names of breeders or their kennel names on the site. Its ok, someone will delete this entire posting when they see it. IF you want advice on a specific breeder PM me I will be happy to tell you what I think. I am also sure there are other members who would do the same. Finding the "right" breeder is VERY hard keep going!

:sl*p:

There's no such thing as miniature or petite or 'teacup' cavaliers.

I'd keep searching for a health-focused breeder who isn't trying to make this breed smaller that the breed standard. The standard is there for a reason. This is breeding outside of a healthful approach. Given all the existing health challenges this breed faces, why would any breeder risk introducing more? The answer is green, and fits in a wallet.

Facts about 'miniature' or 'teacup' or 'petite', deliberately-bred, undersized dogs (which typically involves breeding litter runts or selling premature puppies, and frequently results in a range of health issues -- liver shunt, open skull fontanels, luxating patellas (slipping kneecaps), fragile bones, hydrocephalus and other neurological disorders:

From http://www.cavalierhealth.org/breeders.htm:

AVOID BREEDERS WHO: Say they breed only "small", "tiny", or "teacup" cavaliers. Breeders who intentionally try to breed cavalier King Charles spaniels only in the 10 to 12 pound range cannot have the best interest of the breed in mind. The breed standard's range of weight is from 12 to 18 lbs., and many males tend to weigh more than 18 lbs.

It's true that I ask people not to discuss ,or post links to, specific breeders if asking for recommendations. There's info on this in the 'Getting Started' section. :)

I'm sorry. Promise I won't do that again...I'll pm about something like this next time:):)
