There are now two clinics doing low cost diagnostic MRIs for syringomyelia (SM) for cavaliers in the US -- in the Cleveland and Pittsburgh areas. There are for considerably less than a full MRI would cost and are more than adequate for diagnosing SM in almost all cases -- however a full MRI would then be needed if surgery is being considered.
The low cost clinics are a major breakthrough for cavalier owners/breeders in the US as costs would have been prohibitive for most people to have this done.
