EVO

Linda

Well-known member
I had been feeding Dudley Innova EVO for months, I went to purchase
somemore a while back and the uneducated employee scared the
pants of me, (well not in the store) :D :D :D
He informed me it causes kidney problems, I have tried ever other kibble
on the market and he does not seem to eat it he will hold out for 2 to 3 days I decided to try giving him the EVO again and he gobbled it up.
Has anyone in United Kingdom ever heard of this.
I am going to switch him back to raw, which he was originally eating
about 1 year ago. How do I introduce the raw if he is presently just
started eating EVO again ????????????????

I am concerned about just giving him straight EVO as it is protein based
so how do I get the veggies in, I heard that if the veggies are not
pureed the dog does not get any nutrients from them.
I also called the company about the coments the employee said to me
about EVO they advised this is not true. I remember when I was feeding
completely raw, whenever I would take the chill out of his food in the
microwave he took off, that is why I stopped I am thinking of trying
another brand.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just started feeding my pups a dehydrated food from Honest Kitchen. Our holistic vet recommended it. It looks really great and the dogs love it. It's wet, not kibble. See if you can get a sample from the company. If not - I can mail you a packet to see if Dudley likes it.

Rory's Mom, which of the dehydrated ones do you give Rory? I see they have 3 different kinds: Verve, Force and Embark.

Do you feed them just this food or do you add other ingredients to it?

Since it's so expensive, I'm currently mixing it in w/ other food. More variety that way, also. I'm going to pick up canned Innova. I have the turkey one right now (Embark?). It has no grain, which may help w/ my lab's allergies, too. .

The 4lb tub has 43cups in it and they advise 1cup day for dogs under 20lbs. And I think it resales for about $43? So not too bad. a dollar a day! But my lab should get 2 cups/day, so that puts me at about $90/month which is a bit high for this starving student. ;)

FYI, Chester LOVES the Innova canned. I buy the little cans and put 1/4 can in with his dry food and he gobbles it all up. I will try the Embark and see how His Highness likes it.

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try.

Give Rory a bug hug from me and a lick on the nose from Chester!

Hi Kendall
I called them they and left a message, what luck they actually have
a supplier in Canada that is 5 minutes from my house.
I am going to see if they can give me some samples.
I don't care what it costs as long as it is good for him and he likes it.
Going to see the possiblity of a 2nd Cav in a few weeks I am so excited
I want to try and get Dudley settled on a food before purchasing a
puppy (Mom should be in season anytime)
But she has a tri that she is just waiting to see if he is show potential

Will give me a feel to see how Dudley reacts.
Thanks Kendal, I have had a lot of feeding issues or manipulating issues

Like the fact it has no wheat.
I told my son Daniel whom is a Celiac and allergic to wheat/gluten
that Dudley is Celiac also. icon_yikes
Thanks you are always full of knowledge for a starving student
you do a great job with your doggies.
Linda
My kids just love that picture of Rory on that pumpkin.

Hi Kendall
After spending much time on the phone this afternoon I was able
to find a supplier, it is about $50.00 Cdn for a 4lb bag. They don't
have samples, and the supplier that is close to my house only has
it in 10 lb bags I am not buying one of those until I am sure he likes
it, the receptionist is going to ask her boss to call me tommorow
to see if I can get a sample.

Have you ever heard of another raw based food made by NRG
apparently it is the same except less expensive.
I can't find their website.
Linda

The NRG diet looks good. I don't know anything about it personally.

Let me know if you need a sample of the Honest Kitchen. My holistic vet gave me a sample packet, so I know they exist. Too bad the distributor doesn't have them. Hopefully the company can mail you one?? If not, I'll mail you a sample.

Hope Chester likes it, GudrunTheRed! (p.s. WHAT does this name mean???)

A great many people in my club feed Honest Kitchen and swear by it. I don't feed it only because my guys are so doing so well on CA Natural and it took so long to get them on something that agreed with them. The gal who heads up Honest Kitchen came and was a guest speaker at our club. They really know their stuff!!

Thanks Cathy, He would not eat the California Natural Chicken & Rice
I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will like the Honest Kitchen
and I also feel good knowing it is good for him. I am not saying CNCR
wasn't but the little rascal will not eat it their goes another bag of kibble
into the garbage. Oh well
I will try adding wet if I have to, I prefer him to eat raw.
This boy is icon_drivingcar me crazy icon_yikes
I hope they will give me a sample, otherwise Kendall has offered
to send a sample.
Thanks again

I noticed the stuff was from San Diego!!! A big selling point for my husband. ;) He loves supporting local (or hometown) companies/products! :)

Kendall

I called the Cdn Whse this morning, they are going to supply me with
some samples, but they have no instructions and the receptionist
did not speak the greatest English.

She is going to leave it outside for me, as they close before I can
get over to pick it up, how do you mix it is it even or half water ?????

I tried calling the manufacturer in the States but no answer, I did leave
a message but I would like to try if tonight if I can.
Unfortuantely they only have 10lb bags I really would prefer a 4 lb bag
I spent most of the day trying to find a pet store that sells it no luck
so far.
They don't seem to know when they will be getting smaller bags,
you would think they would have them not everybody has huge dogs,
I know you have both but it would take me forever to finish it.

If you happen to see this post could you let me know how to mix it
and with what etc.,

I appreciate your help Kendall, I have a feeling this might be the
food for him.
Linda

It's 1cup dry mix to 1.25 to 1.5cups of water.

It says for a 10-20lb dog, give 1cup (dry) a day. For more active 10-20lb dog, give 2cups a day.

Thanks Kendall,
What a carry on, she is putting the samples into white plastic bags
The company in the States will ship me a 4lb container but I then
have to pay duty and shipping.
If he likes it they have a 10lb container here apparently The Honest
Kitchen is trying to find a new Canadian Supplier.
I don't think they are pushing it enough for them, anyway I thank you
once again and I will keep my fingers crossed that he likes it.

Linda, do you not have a dog shelter near you? I'm sure they'd be glad of the food. Everytime Maxx has wasted food I take the remnants to our local dogs home - they never refuse it :D

Hi Maxx's Mom

Why didn't I think of that, I will call our local shelter as I have a
huge bag of Wellness and I didn't through the other bag out yet.
What a great suggestion.

Thanks :D :D :D :D :D

I will definetly give the food to them from now on.

i feed my dog a dry diet called clinivet, and its making her so lively and healthy that i am thinking of eating it myself

That looks like a really good food; I see it at their stand at the national dog show each year. I think a UK brand?

Well I tried the Honest Kitchen with Dudley and you would think I was
feeding him poison. I even added raw ground turkey to it, nothing
he wanted nothing to do with it.
It's a shame, because it really looks healthy and has lots and lots of
veggies and fruits in it along with meat.

I took another trip to the petstore, and was lucky to find a employee
who fed raw. He informed me the fellow who advised me of the info
about EVO in the past, is not a believer of raw and that is probably why
he had such negative words about it.

He was a very helpful University student, and advised if Dudley is loving
EVO and chicken necks then stick with it, their is no difference except
for the preservatives. So I am feeling much better and I can see that
Dudley is also.
:D :D :D :D
