Cavalier health/eye problems

Our Cavalier has recently acquired an eye problem. His eyes are bloodshot and weepy, and he keeps them closed a lot of the time. He has become very listless, and we can hardly get him up to go do his business outside. We walk him every day, sometimes he doesn't want to go for a walk. He use to love going on walks.
He is almost 11 years old. I couldn't find this topic on any of the other posts. We don't think he is blind, but his close vision seems a bit off.
We have taken him to the vet. She gave pills, drops and ointment, but it didn't help.
He takes fish oil 1000 mg. and one half tablet of Glyco-Flex (glycosamine) for dogs every day. He has been taking them both for over 8 years. Is it possible either one of these could be harming his eyes? Thank you for any advice, we are desperate.

What a worry for you.

What did your vet tell you he had wrong with his eyes? Dry eye? conjunctivitis?
If it is not clearing with what your vet has prescribed then you may need to ask for a referral to an eye specialist.

Has he become reluctant to walk since the eyes became so sore, or did it happen before this?
You may be dealing with two different problems here, or it may be that his eyes are so painful, and he can see so little, that he just does not want to move.

I would doubt whether the supplements would have caused the problem, but I would not be giving anything extra while he is taking medication without checking with my vet.

It is not possible that either supplement can be the cause for his eye problems. I am not a vet or medical expert of any kind, but your body takes what it needs and excretes what it doesn't, fish oil reduced inflammation and Glyco Flex helps lubricate joints.

Glaucoma or high blood pressure? How is his heart? Is it possible he had a stroke?

Have you considered an opthalmologist? They specialize in eye problems so would probably be more familiar with what is going on than your regular vet.
